Birthday Greetings – 1911

BirthdayGreetings1911

Birthday Greetings.  520.

Post marked Columbus, Ohio.  May 15, 1911.  Addressed to Mr. Lee Weaver, 94 Tireman Ave, Detroit, Michigan.

“May 15 -11  Dear Nephew, I am thinking of you today and wish you happiness because it is your Birthday.  I wish you happiness and prosperity all through the year. I may not be able to tell you about it every day because I am far away but it makes no difference, the thought and wish will be with you just the same.  Many Returns, Your Auntie R [Roseanah Weaver Fisher].”

[then, written across the bottom of the card, upside down] “Florence’s [Florence Koontz’] Birthday is the 18th of this month. 1346 W. Broad St.”

Aunt Rose, the sister of Grandpa Lee’s father, Lemuel Weaver, was very attentive and made sure she covered the holidays with her nephew!   In 1911, she was apparently giving match making a shot as well, making sure Grandpa knew when Grandma’s birthday was and making sure he had her address.   Grandpa was 18 in 1911; Grandma was 16.

For the post card itself, notice the swastika is each corner.  1911 was long before it was a symbol of the movement that lead to WW-II.
